Than register for the classes and/or the parties online at section "Registration". The classes take place at:
Harlem 2012 instructorsMia Goldsmith (New Orleans, USA)
Mia Goldsmith is focusing on a wide range of dances from the Jazz Age. She has taught all over the world, including Sweden's Herrang Dance Camp, as well as events that specialize on Southern California's historical dances such as Bal-swing and Balboa. Being one of the favorites for the old timers to dance with, Mia focuses on authentic technique's which allow her to adapt and bring her well known improvisation and style to the dance floor. Mia Goldsmith paired together with Peter Loggins in 2006 to teach at the Herrang Dance Camp in Sweden. Mia, along with her incredible string of competition wins, has undoubtedly become known as one of the best Balboa Swing dancers in the world. Her unique approach to teaching is full of energy and creativity, bringing a passionate and motivated air to the duo's partnership. Peter Loggins (New Orleans, USA)
Peter Loggins is the foremost historian on American Jazz Dance. Credited for bringing back many of the dances that he learned from the original dancers of the 1920's and 30's and 40's. He brings a first hand historical approach to his classes sharing what was handed down by National Charleston champions, Harvest Moon Ball Lindy Hop winners and 1930's Swing Champions. Peter not only travels worldwide as an instructor, lecturer, performer and competition judge but he can also be seen on video on Beverly Hills 90210, Marilyn Mansion "Mobscene" video, Royal Crown Revue's "Zip Gun Bop" video, Mulholland Drive, and the 13th Floor to name a few. Together with his partner, Mia Goldsmith, they have become famous for their footwork, improvisation, individual approach, and style. Their expansive knowledge of social jazz dances and the music that drove them allow students to learn the history of these dances and how they've evolved through the years. Jo Hoffberg (USA)
Jo Hoffberg is a veteran of the social and competitive Lindy Hop scene around the world. Jo has been dancing Lindy Hop since 2000. Her first international working experience was in Japan working for Universal Studios, and since then she has taught in the US, Asia, Australia, South America, Western and Eastern Europe. Currently performing with The Killer Dillers, she is thrilled at the idea of new costumes. She is a passionate and avid dancer, instructor and competitor. Jo has a very distinct and unique style which sets her apart from other followers. Her fancy footwork, slides and musicality are surpassed only by her inventiveness of signature moves. Jo is also a notorious movie quoter and inundates her friends and students with her sassy attitude and one liners from Anchorman, Blades of Glory, Wedding Crashers and How I met your Mother, as well as breaking out into song at inappropriate moments. When Jo grows up, she wants to be a secret agent and have language skills, survival skills, knife throwing skills, shorthand skills, costuming skills, and the power to read minds. When she is not learning a new skill, she plots to take over the world! After that accomplishment she’s not entirely sure what she’ll do. Long walks on the beach and cold weather aren’t for her, but she does enjoy wearing boots and drinking cups of hot water. Kevin St. Laurent (USA)
Kevin St. Laurent is internationally recognized for his energy and innovation as a Lindy Hop dancer, instructor, performer and choreographer. His creativity on the dance floor stems from a command of musicality and partner connection, features of his dance that make him such an engaging performer, and his priorities in both improvisation and choreography. As an instructor, he concentrates on the technique of these elements at all levels, teaching his students the ability to adapt the style of their dance to that of the music and to create a dynamic dance with their partner. Kevin's energy and focus on fun are a constant backdrop to all of his work. Kevin began his dancing career at the young age of eight years. Though initially reluctant, his mother ('Thank you Mom') insisted he "try it" for a little while. He's been 'trying' it ever since. His initial 3 years were spent studying tap, ballet, and jazz. He now draws inspiration from his experience in many dance styles, including Break Dancing, Hip Hop, Modern Dance, West African Dance, Hungarian Couple Dancing, Mexican Folkloric, Contra Dancing, Scandinavian Couple Dancing, Balkan Line Dances (including Bulgarian, Greek, Bosnian, Croatian, Romanian, Turkish & Serbian), Ballroom Standards, Scottish Country Dancing and others. In 1998, Kevin began specializing in Lindy Hop and in 2001 he went professional and has since taught on five continents including North America, South America, Europe, Asia & Australia. His expertise is sought after by both amateur and professional dancers world-wide. Alice Mei (France)
Alice 's dance carrier started when she was 4 years old, where she got the honor to interpret almost every single Disney Character from "Dopey" to "tinker-bell" for an extended period of 10 years. Alice finally met her true dance love (The lindy hop) in 2003 after a few unsuccessful try outs in flamenco, salsa dancing and kick boxing. Hooked on swing dancing, she decided to stop working as an architect in order to fulfill her passion. For the past 8 years, Alice has been enjoying traveling around the world to share the joy of Lindy Hop. She is definitely at her happiest when she is swinging it on the dance-floor and you will most likely hear her giggling from the other side of the room when she is social dancing. In her classes, she teaches the same principals that she cherish as a dancer and she mainly focuses on keeping things simple and in rhythm. As a competitor, She won several titles in major competitions. Alice is also a founding member of the Ninjammerz with which she choreographs, practices and performs all around the world. Tommy Blacharz (France)
The last few years, Tommy has been placed in a number of international competitions, he is a key member of the Famous troupe: The Ninjammerz. Ron Freund (Israel)
Ron Freund is a multi-talented performer and a vibrant participant in the contemporary tap dance and swing music scene. His rich artistic background as a professional composer, musician, dancer and actor lends to his outstanding versatility on stage and as a teacher. He has taught rhythm tap in major cities in the U.S, Canada, Israel and Europe, including Sweden's Herrang Dance Camp. Ron has had the privilege to perform with bands such as Tuba Skinny (New Orleans), Swing De Gitane (Tel Aviv), The Carling Family (Sweden), Django Lassi (Berlin) and many more. In the classroom, he is known for giving personal corrections and feedback to each and every student. His unique approach to improvisation and the focus on solid technique, musicality and articulation of movement, make his classes challenging and fun. Ron loves teaching and enjoys sharing his passion for dance and music with friends, students and audience all over the world. |

The venues: BandsSugar Hot BandPlaying music to make people want to dance. The idea of the Hot Sugar Band came when two musicians, Vincent and David, met the Brotherswing dancers, Paulo and Mélanie. At dances and concerts, the septet started to take form. Paulo and Mélanie introduced their world to 7, sometimes 9 jazz musicians, from different backgrounds, all united by the same desire to go back to the roots of swing. It was the start of a new adventure, combining the two worlds of music and dance. Now the Hot Sugar Band makes people dance and, to everyone’s delight, plays the swing standards. Members: Gille Berthenet - trumpet Shirt Tail StompersOne of London's top vintage jazz bands, The Shirt Tail Stompers have quickly made a name for themselves at home and internationally. Truly appreciating the art of swing and knowing it's place in history, they are heavily influenced by Fats Waller, Fletcher Henderson, Wingy Manone and many other greats from the swing and trad jazz era of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. They also play a mean blues show, influenced by the likes of the early Duke Ellington, Sidney Bechet and the old musicical roots of New Orleans. Last year alone saw them playing festivals and shows in Sweden, Belgium, Hungary, The Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Italy and throughout the UK to rave reviews. Highlights at home have included The Royal Albert Hall, Vintage Festival by Hemmingway and London's many vintage and dance nights. Dancers and lindy hop are very close to their hearts and the band have relished making people's feet move all over the world. Members: Steven Coombe - trumpet The Lithuanian Military OrchestraThe Lithuanian Military Orchestra (Lietuvos kariuomenės orkestras) was formed on the 4, September, 1991, after Lithuania regained independence. The orchestra that has been put together by band-master major Justinas Jonušas now consists of 57 professional musicians. It is led by head conductor captain Egidijus Ališauskas with the help of conductor lieutenant Dainius Pavilionis. The main purpose of the Lithuanian Military Orchestra is to take part in the official meetings of the honourable foreign guests, ceremonials of Lithuanian Military Forces and Lithuanian national celebrations. Besides, the orchestra is giving concetrs for Lithuanian society, prepares defile programmes performed at different events. The orchestra has recorded seven CDs. Their records are played on radio and television. From the very beginning the orchestra is cooperating with military orchestras and their conductors from other European Union countries and the USA. The Lithuanian Military Orchestra has successfully taken part in different miliytary music festivals, toured in Germany, Belgium, Poland, The Netherlands, Denmark, France, Estonia, Sweden, Belarus, Check Republic. In 1996 the orchestra won a Grand Prix in the international festival of orchestras Golden Lyre in Poland. In 1999 it performed for 23 thousand people in the festival of the NATO military orchestras in Kaiserslautern (Germany) The repertoire of the orchestra consists of popular orchestra music, original contemporary music and specially arranged classical compositions by Lithuanian and foreign composers. Rhythm Junkies is a group of mostly amateur-musicians from Vilnius, which are working their way through recognition on a number of very simple but cozy objectives: to maximize the interest in the abandoned swing music in Lithuania, refresh their minds and, of course, have fun fun fun! Rhythm JunkiesRhythm Junkies consists of eleven people of all kinds, who have firstly fallen in love with the Lindy Hop dance and only then gathered together to make a change in the music people dance to: they decided that it should not only be the speakers that the music comes out of, but that it should also be guitars, accordions, clarinets, violins, horns and other authentic instruments which make the hearts shiver and the feet stir. They call themselves the Street Swing Ensemble and are at their best in the fresh air, but when the weather chills they do not fall asleep and rather gather in bars, cafes, and other shelters where, obtained at least a small corner for the instruments, make it loud and groovy! The souls and the hearts of all the Junkies are far in the roaring crying shouting and trampling 20 's 30's and 40's and, until the time machine is invented, they travel there with the help of music, rhythm and dance. Members: Mindaugas Bikauskas (guitar/vocals) Home Jazz FiveHome Jazz Five - a smaller set of Rhythm Junkies, the street swing ensemble, that inspired many dancers to start playing. Home Jazz Five redescovers old jazz songs and spices them up with New Orleans flavour hoping. This music will wake your heart up, make you smile or even shed a tear. Members: Mindaugas Bikauskas - vocals/guitar |
