WELCOME PARTY

It’s the opening party before the weekend kicks in. Nothing too official, besides the Teachers Introduction. An easy way to warm up before classes, competitions and shows starts.

Just a good old social party with live music, DJ music and catching up with old and new friends.

Battle Party

First of two main evenings with performances, competitions and some extra activities.

During this party you can visit Photo Booth to fool around with your friends and take a memorable picture. You can visit our Vintage Market to purchase something for yourself or a present for a friend.

Also something not to miss during the evening:

Solo Jazz Battle Competition

Performances

Battle of the Bands

Grand Party

Second of our main evenings is the highlight of the weekend. A true celebration in spirit of jazz.

Besides the Photo Booth and Vintage Market you could visit during the evening, a true joy to watch a one of its kind - The Ultimate Best Dancers Competition.

Not to mention the performances and lots of live music.

During the midnight - it’s a tradition since 2013, to stand in silence and take a vintage picture like they did a hundred+ years ago.

Farewell Party

Last official night of the festival. It’s a perfect opportunity to dance with all those friends you haven’t just yet this weekend.

A last strong kick is definitely the Strictly Lindy Competition to see the best of the best going crazy on the dance floor.

It’s that night to give it all you’ve got left for the weekend!

Teachers Introduction

Every year we are really excited about our teachers line up. We choose them in belief to inspire you to dance beyond your imagination. Sometimes we experiment to mix instructors and create an original atmosphere on the dance floor and in the classes.

Thursdays Teachers Introduction is great to have a glance of what you can expect from your classes in this year's edition. Though, due to arrival times, not all teachers might make it, but you’ll definitely see all of them the next day.

Battle of the Bands

This tradition is inspired by the band battle between Benny Goodman “The Kind of Swing” and Chick Webb’s, “The King of Drums” Orchestras at the Savoy Ballroom, Harlem, NYC on 1937 May 11th.

The first Battle of The Bands took part in 2011 edition between Rhythm Junkies (as a home band) and Handsome Fred’s Orchestra (current Hornsgatan Ramblers). It was a rematch since they have battled one before in Stockholm, Sweden. The final verdict was 1:1.

The Battles became a tradition of the festival and most of the time it is of a show and way of paying respects to the jazz culture, then a competition. Either way each time it is incredible.

Lindy Trip

This tradition started in 2006, when during the summer Lindyhop.lt crew brought social dancing outside and during one evening traveled a few outside spots to dance.

Now it’s one of the highlights of the event. Saturday afternoon we gather in the center of Vilnius to dance and spread the love for jazz culture.

Later on, we march down Gediminas avenue, one of the main streets of Vilnius old town together with live music in spirit of New Orleans marches.

Lindy Trip ends in Cathedral square with an enormous "Shim Sham".

Strictly Lindy Competition

It will take part on Sunday “Farewell Party” at Vaidilos Theatre . Prelims will take part around 22:45 and finals - around 23:30. You can participate in the competition only as a couple. Make sure to come earlier to register at the entrance and pick up your number at least 30 min before it’s scheduled, since there a chance it could be earlier and also, later. There’s a one number per couple. It doesn’t matter if it’s a leader or follower wearing it until judges can see it.
If you still want to register for the competition, you can do it until 22:00 and only on Sunday at the entrance of the venue.

Harlem Group Photo

Since 2014 we’ve been shooting a festival group picture in an old school way.

HARLEM group photo is made using Big Format Field Camera from 1920s and analog techniques. The final picture is made using classic black and white negative on silver gelatin baryta photo paper, developed by hands and is one of a kind. Prepare to stand still for five or ten minutes just like a hundred years ago.

Rules are easy. For the prelims you will have 3 different tempo songs for each heat. You only dance with your partner. Number of heats will be decided according to the number of contestants. The Judges will pick 6 couples for the finals.

The finalists will be announced during the night. Make sure to double check if you’re in it. The finals will take part at 23:30 ±30 min give or take.

The Finals. Couples will pick a number of their spotlight. There will be a warm up song. A spotlight song with 8x8 each couple twice and an all skate. The judges will choose the winners. More details will be given during the competition.

May the best dancers be victorious!

JAZZ BATTLE COMPETITION

Jazz Battle Competition will take part on Friday “Battle Party” at Legendos Club. Prelims will take part around 20:30 and finals - around 23:00. If you are in the competition, make sure you’re there at least 30 min before it’s scheduled, since there a chance  it could be earlier and also, later.

Rules are easy. The prelims will have 3 full songs per heat. Number of heats will be decided according to the number of contestants. The Judges will choose 5 or 7 contestants for the finals.

Performances

Since we have one of the best dancers teaching classes and judging performances, why not to see them perform? Well exactly! That’s why during Friday and Saturday parties you will have an exclusive opportunity to see small chunks of shows, sometimes choreographed just for that night. Lindyhop, Balboa, Tap, Solo Jazz, with live music and with one of the best recorded tunes. One of those moments to stop breathing for a second and have a huge smile on your face!

The format is called “The King of the Hill”.  Finalists stand in line. The first in the line is the King of the hill and has to “defend” his position. The second dancer in line starts the battle. All finalists can dance as long as they want, but be noted, that most of the time, it’s not the length of the dance, that makes it better, so pace yourself since the competition could take a while. If the the spotlight is taking too long, the organizers  will take responsibility to stop the music or pass the spotlight to the other dancer. After both dancers battle each other, the judges vote by pointing to one or the other dancer, or not voting at all, by saying both were equally good. The winner of the battle stays to defend his position and the loser goes back in the end of the line and waits for his next chance to become the “king of the hill”.
The winner is a dancer that collects the most wins of all finalists. If there is a tie the organisers can stop the competition and make the two finalist battle until “death”.  May the best dancer be victorious!

Ultimate Best Dancers Competition

It will take part on Saturday “Grand Party” at Legendos Club. Prelims and semi-finals will take part around 20:30 and finals - around 23:30. If you are in the competition, make sure you’re there at 20:00 for prelims, and for finals at least 30 min before it’s scheduled, since there a chance it could be earlier and also, later.

Rules are easy. The prelims and semi-finals are the same as a regular J’n’J competition with different heats and partner changing. Number of heats will be decided according to the number of contestants. The Judges will have to see your number, so make sure you have it. Without your number you can’t participate. Semi-finals will take part right after the prelims. Judges will pick 12 leaders and 12 followers for semi-finals. If you get a sticker, you have to go register again and get a number for semi-finals.

Photo Booth

It is common in larger events to have a photo booth where you can take a picture with your friends to have a memory for the future. For the last couple years, we are trying to be as creative a s possible to make our photo booth more playful and detail focused to the jazz era. It’s definitely a great way to spend your time in between dances.

The photo booth is closed during competitions and performances you might want to come a bit early, since there could be a bit of a cue.

The finalists will be announced during the night. Make sure to double check if you’re in it. The finals will take part at 23:30 ±30 min give or take.

The Finals.

Followers will pick a number of their leader and leader will pick a number of their spotlight. There will be a warm up song. Spotlights goes like this - the first song will be slow and all couples will do two spotlights each. During the first spotlight dancers can't touch, that means, they will dance solo, in front of each other, inspiring each other. Second spotlight is as a regular couple dance. Same idea with the fast song. That means during two songs each couple will have 4 spotlights (1 slow solo, 1 slow couple, 1 fast solo, 1 fast couple) and two all skates. The judges will choose the winners.

More details will be given during the competition.

May the best dancers be victorious!
